Nature for Tiny Tots (24-42 mos)
(2 - 3 yrs 6 mos), 10:00 -11:00 am.
(24-42 months) Children and their parent learn about plants, animals, and their habitat through songs, crafts, and activities. Topics vary each class.
*Mason, Custis & Lee Family Tour
(16 - Adults), 10:00 am - 04:30 pm.
Includes van transportation and admissions. Discover the family and friends of Historic Huntley owners Thomson and Betsey Mason, including Nelly Custis, the Lee family and George Mason. Tour includes Historic Huntley, Woodlawn, Gunston Hall and the Lee-Fendall House. Pack a bag lunch. Trip departs Historic Huntley at 10am and returns at 4:30pm.
Owl Outing
(Adults) 5:30 - 7:30 pm
These nocturnal raptors are pair-bonding and looking for nesting sites at this time of year. Prowl the park after dark to listen for and learn about our local owls, and possibly see a barred owl. Meet at the Visitor Center and dress for the weather and standing off trail.
*Hardtack and Johnnycakes
(4 - Adults), 1:00 -2:30 pm.
Get a taste of a soldiers life as you sample hardtack and f reshly made johnnycake and try your hand at drilling. Join an i nterpreter in period dress to write a letter home with pen and ink, l earn to sew on a button, as we share stories about the Masons and o ther wartime residents of Huntley
On Mason's Land
(4 - Adults), 12:00 -2:00 pm.
Did you know that Huntley Meadows Park was once part of George Mason IV's land holdings? Discover this forgotten founding father for yourself by designing your own stencil to mark crops, writing with a quill feather and taking a hike through the land he left us.
Fall Color Snap
(10 - Adults), 9:30 - 11:30 am.
What's that chill in the air? How do plants and animals adapt to the coming seasonal change? Join us for a hike and learn how to draw a beautiful fall scene.
Decorative Gourd Workshop
(4 - Adults), 12:00 - 2:00 pm.
Gourds are used in many different ways. Learn this valuable crop's history, then prep, design and decorate a gourd using different media and your imagination. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult.
